I wonder?… What Happens at a Weekly Sunday Service?
Christians attend Sunday Service because it is a way of showing our love for God. It is where we gather together as a church family to publicly show our faith and trust in God. It also strengthens our relationships with other members of the church family.
Dress as you feel most comfortable. All of our weekly Sunday Services are open to everyone of any faith, or of no faith. The facilities are all wheelchair accessible including toilets, we have a loop-sound system to help folk hear better, the services are dementia friendly.
People start arriving from about 10 am onwards. You will be welcomed at the door by a member of the congregation and given a hymn book that is available in large print if you prefer. Sometimes hymns are also projected on the screen. You will also be given a sheet to keep. It says what the Bible readings and hymn numbers are, and gives some information about what’s on in the life of the church family. The hymns and Bible readings are also displayed on the wall in the chapel. As you enter the chapel you will see the large offertory plate on the right-hand side into which you can put any monetary gift that you might like to donate. It goes towards the running of the church and to showing God’s love to the world in our local community and the world at large.
You can sit wherever you prefer. The choir sit on the platform at the front. Before the service begins at 10.30 am you can chat to people or sit in quiet reflection as you prefer, whilst the organist plays until the entrance of the worship leader and the people helping with the service. Someone will welcome everyone, may give some church notices, and will introduce the worship leader and the organist. Usually there are between 35 and 45 people at the service.
During the service you can stay seated or stand when the worship leader invites us to, as you prefer.
No two services are the same, but most will usually include: –
Singing hymns and songs: Praying aloud or silently as you prefer: Listening for God’s word as someone reads sections from the Bible: Reflections on the Bible readings guided by the worship leader.
At the end of the service at around 11.30 am, the organist will usually play a piece that we stay seated and listen to before then leaving and handing the hymn book back to the person at the door. The worship leader will be at the exit to wish you well and respond to any questions you might have.
After the service we’d love to welcome you to enjoy refreshments in the hall alongside the church. It is fully accessible for wheelchairs including a disabled toilet. Drinks are served from a counter by the kitchen, and you can sit where you like at the tables where there will be plates of biscuits.
We usually leave at around 12 noon.
We’d love to meet you at one of our Sunday Services.
