Matthew 22: 34-40
That was the week that was when we raised nearly £2,500 for Christian Aid and we need another like it to show our nearer neighbours how much they are loved!
Our neighbours are far and near, but the ones who are next door need to know they are loved as much as those from a distance know they are loved!
I could be mistaken for saying that”charity begins at home’ and while there is some truth in that I believe that “home is where the heart is.” If our hearts are at home with God Love will live there in equal measure for all our neighbours, far or near.
I am delighted that we raised £2,000 from our walk and drop of the Broadway streets, plus £240 from the Just Giving Page, with a bit more to be added from gift aid, but there is now a need in our local community so can we show how much we “Love Broadway”?
We love ourselves enough to treat ourselves to a meal out, a holiday or a special treat and we deserve it after a year like the one we have just had. That was the year that was and we don’t want another like it, but what about our neighbours? Yes, spoil yourself with some love, but if God is at home in your heart what do our neighbours need?
The Church is a community of people who “give to anyone who has a need” (Acts 2: 42-47 and Acts 4: 32-37) and LOVE is a desperate need as we come out of Covid ‘lockdowns.’ All ages are experiencing levels of depression as relationships have broken down and people are facing the worries of unemployment, eviction and poverty unlike anything they have known before. As Churches Together we have responded in the past with food hampers at Christmas and other emergencies. but now is the time for LOVE to be seen in Broadway as never before.
If we can raise £2,000 in one week for Christian Aid we can come together and make sure that we have enough to distribute to anyone who is in need. No-one should be hungry in Broadway so how are we going to show our love for the village and provide enough food?
You can still donate through this link Click here to donate: https://givealittle.co/campaigns/735e5fb6-dc93-4eb0-bfee-6a8cb7751a35 to provide food vouchers or put donations through mine or Shellie’s door or write a cheque to Broadway PCC. Perhaps it needs a greater effort on behalf of us all to provide the love and care that is needed.
As I said on Friday after leaning on ‘My Gate’ in prayer:
The Spirit of God was hovering over the darkness when the voice of God said ‘let there be light” so there was light and Jesus says, “YOU are the light of there world!” (Matthew 6: 14) Let’s be it as a community of Love.
Sheep must be more intelligent than I thought.
I was walking with a friend last week when we found one in the wrong field and separated from her lambs who were crying out for her. We managed to shepherd her through the ‘kissing gate’ to be reconciled with her happy children.
When we looked back the sheep we rescued had her feet on the bottom of the kissing gate and was pushing it open. When it was half open she manoeuvred round the gate and back into the other field. I can only think she must have thought the pastures were greener there and better nourishment for her children!
Interviews are being held this morning for the Outreach Worker we plan to employ in partnership with the Methodist Church so please pray for the candidates and that the interview panel will make the right decision.
Donald McCombie will be our visitor next Sunday with his extensive collection of stories and songs to lead us in worship. If you were not in Church yesterday and would like to attend please let me know.
Yesterday was a Climate Sunday Service and we will celebrate another on August 15th led by Eco Church and Church and Society. (Sorry that I said July on Friday). Our Methodists friends joined us yesterday and we visit them on Sunday July 4th for Israel’s last service in Broadway. He will preach and I will lead and we will share communion together.
It is wonderful to see the ‘Look After Yourself’ activities back again and so many people appreciating the opportunity to be active again among friends. How soon other activities can resume depends on the lifting of remaining government restrictions and how groups feel about mixing again.
Please pray for the Elders meeting this afternoon and for the Holy Spirit to guide the discussions about future ministry..
Also for Naomi Pam Susan Michael Frank and Christine Kathy Hancock Vicky Margaret Mary
Pray for your neighbours and whatever their needs may be.
God Bless, Richard
