Today is the anniversary of one of the most inspiring speeches ever delivered and I share a dream with Martin Luther King that I pray can bring us together whatever the colour of our skin.
I have a dream that with our faith we will hew out of the mountains of despair stones of hope. It is a dream of a kingdom to come.
I have a dream that with our faith we will transform the jangling discords of our nations into a beautiful symphony of friendship. It is a dream of God’s will being done.
I have a dream that with our faith we will work together, pray together, suffer together, struggle together and celebrate victory together as we achieve the great day of freedom. It is a dream of heaven coming to earth.
I have a dream of people singing a new song of freedom as they hold hands together in hope, faith and love and dance together as brothers and sisters in God’s kingdom. It is a dream of being delivered from evil.
I have a dream of a Kingdom that has come where God’s will is done on earth as in heaven, everyone has enough bread, all sins are forgiven and we can sing AMEN for ever and ever. It is a dream of living in God’s power and glory.
As we see the racial tensions that prevail in the United States at this time I found a warning from Martin Luther King written about 25 years ago: “We must either learn to live together as brothers and sisters or we shall perish together as fools!”
I have a dream that we will learn to live together as brothers and sisters across all our boundaries of race, faith and culture and that tradition will not be the stumbling block to the kingdom of heaven.
I have a dream, and I hope you do too, but dreams don’t happen without some action so I pray we will work to make our dreams come true….
