I borrowed a table clothe from a neighbour once and felt terrible when I spilt red wine all over it that left a terrible stain. It was a perfectly good table cloth, but it was ruined and I didn’t know what to do other than own up and pay the price of a new one.

We lit candles and put them in windows to show solidarity with each other and in support for the NHS staff, but can we now break our silence with a new song to the Lord?

Forgive me for asking an unthinkable question, but can we forgive God? Not because God has done anything wrong, but there are a lot of things we don’t like that can be forgiven as much as our sin!

Plastic in the tea…!
I never knew my daily cups of tea could be so damaging to the planet. It’s not the tea that’s the problem, but that little bag that I drop into a cup and pour boiling water on can be a killer. It’s got a plastic content that might not be biodegradable!

Don’t make waves;
cause ripples on the water!
The words we speak can land like a stone in a lake — and we might never know how far the ripples will reach.
We can often be concerned that what we say can sink without trace like a stone that is thrown into the water. It might land with a plop or skim the surface before sinking, but it can send a message further than we think. We don’t know which shoreline they will touch, but the ripples stop somewhere! Some people make waves with campaigns for change, but more of us are gentle in our approach and only cause ripples. You might be surprised at the difference you can make.

If you have forgiven me six or seven times for getting things wrong since I have been in Broadway I have a lot of credit to use up. If you have forgiven me seventy times we have a problem, but multiply that be seven and I could be on my last strike and out the door.

Today is the anniversary of one of the most inspiring speeches ever delivered and I share a dream with Martin Luther King that I pray can bring us together whatever the colour of our skin.
I have a dream that with our faith we will hew out of the mountains of despair stones of hope. It is a dream of a kingdom to come.

As children prepare to go back to school this week it occurs to me that Jesus was on the button with a prophesy for covid 2020 when he said that “whoever tries to save their life will lose it!”
We are so worried about protecting our lives that we risk losing any quality of life. We have got to get on with life and confront the things that trouble us, but I can see us like a Peter who doesn’t like the idea and resists the inevitable direction we must take.
